Appeal Court nullifies High Court ruling sacking Ubah as senator

An Appeal Court in Abuja has sacked the ruling of an FCT High Court which sacked Ifeanyi Ubah as a senator.

The FCT High Court presided over by Justice Bello Kawu had on January 17, 2020 reaffirmed its earlier order sacking Ubah as the Anambra South senator over alleged forgery of school certificate.

But Ubah, a member of the Young People’s Party (YPP), dragged the matter to the Appeal Court.

A five-member panel of justices of the appeal court, led by Justice Stephen Adah, ruling on the matter on Thursday annulled the FCT High Court judgment.

The panel held that the originating summons was incompetent having been filed in September 2019 outside the date before the judgement of the National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal and without a valid stamp and seal of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on September 25, 2019.
